The singer teamed up with the French producer on her new track ‘Killah,’ which he performed alongside her during Friday’s closing set.

Lady Gaga cast a spell over Coachella 2025.

Not only did Mother Mayhem close out the first day of the Indio, Calif., music festival on Friday night with an epic headlining performance that spanned much of her career, but she also dropped a new remix of her hit song ‘Abracadabra’ featuring Gesaffelstein, the French music producer she previously worked with on her track ‘Killah.’

Gaga (whose real name is Stefani Germanotta) also brought Gesaffelstein (whose real name is Mike Lévy) as her only surprise guest to perform ‘Killah’ during the set. The ‘dark prince of techno’ wore his signature all-black suit and chrome mask for his appearance, and Gaga took a moment to dance with him before strutting down the stage to play a drum set held up by her dancers in an electrifying standout moment.

The nearly two-hour, theatrical Coachella set was Gaga’s ‘manifesto of mayhem,’ a reference to her recently released seventh solo studio album, Mayhem, almost the entirety of which she performed during the set, alongside many of her biggest hits, including ‘Poker Face,’ ‘Judas,’ ‘Alejandro,’ and ‘Paparazzi.’

The singer divided her performance into four acts: ‘Of Velvet and Vice,’ ‘And She Fell Into a Gothic Dream,’ ‘The Beautiful Nightmare That Knows Her Name,’ and ‘To Make Her Is to Lose Her.’ In addition to playing the drums, she also picked up the guitar during her performance of ‘Garden of Eden.’

Halfway through the set, she took a moment to speak to the massive crowd of fans gathered at the main stage. ‘I love you so much. I wanted to make a romantic gesture to you,’ she said. ‘I built you an opera house in the desert.’ She also kept a close eye on the clock, ensuring she could sing the lyric ’11:59′ from ‘The Beast’ right at 11:59 p.m. PT — no easy task, given that Coachella headliners are known for running behind schedule.

After seemingly wrapping up early at 12:40 a.m. PT, Lady Gaga returned to the stage for an encore titled ‘Eternal Aria of the Monster Heart,’ which featured just her hit song ‘Bad Romance.’

Gaga will take the stage again for another set during Coachella’s second weekend on Friday, April 18. This performance marked her second time headlining Coachella — she also performed in 2017 as a last-minute replacement for Beyoncé, who had to cancel due to her pregnancy. Beyoncé returned to headline the festival the following year.

So much of what I did with ‘Abracadabra’ was about claiming music and imagery that I invented — meaning the combination of those elements is my own creation, and I wanted to fully own that for myself,” Gaga told Entertainment Weekly in March. “As a woman in music, we’re often told that someone else made us who we are, or that it somehow didn’t come from us — that we were made this way. But this is who I am.”

A few moments later in the interview, Gaga laughed and added, “I just realized what I should’ve said when I mentioned that I wasn’t made this way. I was born this way.”
